Visa Doubles Down on F1 Social Shows

Plus, nine sponsored content ideas worth stealing

šŸ‘‹ Welcome back to Sponcon Sports, now a twice-weekly newsletter breaking down the best ideas, strategies, and trends shaping digital sports partnerships.

Starting this week, I’ll be in your inbox every Monday and Thursday at 10 am ET.

The content isn’t changing. I’m simply giving it a little more room to breathe.

I know these newsletters can get long, and there’s often a lot packed into each edition. So going forward, Mondays will be focused on campaign inspiration and industry news, while Thursdays will be reserved for the deeper dives you’re used to.

My goal is to make it easier to keep up with everything I’m sharing and give the best ideas from across the industry the attention they deserve.

In Today’s Edition:

  • šŸ¦€ DoorDash’s Crab-Leg Joke Cracks 10M views

Steal These Ideas

DoorDash teamed up with Jameis Winston to put a clever twist on the popular reaction challenge, replacing the falling darts with crab legs in a post that generated more than 10M views across channels. It’s part of the brand’s ā€œDon’t Fan for Freeā€ campaign, which features Winston, Reggie Bush, and Lane Kiffin and builds its creative around inside jokes college football fans already know.

Meta used its new partnership with the Mercedes F1 Team to show how Muse, its new AI agent, can handle lower-priority tasks in the background, with George Russell serving as a smart metaphor for staying focused when peak performance matters.

Visa is continuing to turn its Red Bull F1 partnerships into original social programming, bringing drivers together for a new series called Gridlocked, where they race to solve a series of puzzles before time runs out. It follows last year’s Take Your Driver to Work Day and is another example of Visa using its F1 rights to create entertainment specifically for social.

Salesforce and Formula 1 launched ā€œFan1,ā€ a global search for F1’s biggest fan, with fans joining F1 Unlocked and completing weekly trivia challenges for a chance to win a trip to the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The signup mechanic is especially smart: it drives fans into F1’s loyalty program while capturing first-party data that Salesforce can presumably help organize and activate for future marketing.

Kylian MbappĆ© is fronting Alan’s new ā€œHealth Can’t Waitā€ campaign, built around taking a more proactive approach to health through prevention, recovery and everyday habits. Alan brought MbappĆ© on as an investor and ambassador in March, but the campaign began rolling out October 1. With MbappĆ© currently sidelined from France’s Nations League matches through injury, the timing makes the message around health and recovery especially relevant.

UCF handed out rally towels designed like Addition Financial credit cards, which got me thinking about how to take the idea even further: seed a handful with real, spendable card numbers and turn the entire stadium into a live giveaway. It reminds me of John Nellis’ Sidemen Charity Match stunt, where his card details appeared on Wembley’s big screen and 90,000 fans had 60 seconds to spend Ā£1,000.

Inter Miami CF is rolling out The Huddle presented by Nu, a live Q&A inside the club’s mobile app where fans can submit questions and hear directly from players in real time. Casemiro is first up Wednesday at noon ET.

The U.S. Women’s National Team announced its October camp roster with Emma Hayes typing out the names in Google Docs, giving U.S. Soccer partner Google a natural product integration.

And the New York Giants turned a classic question of the day into a Dunkin integration, asking players to describe their ideal coffee color.
