Who Won NBA Schedule Release?
Every team analyzed: the best videos, sponsorship trends, and strategies.
👋 Welcome back to Sponcon Sports, a weekly newsletter dedicated to sponsored content strategy in the sports industry!
Last week, I started sharing sponsored content strategy on Instagram and TikTok.
The newsletter isn't going anywhere. But I wanted another way to break down the ideas, campaigns, and trends that catch my attention, in a video format.
If you follow along there, you'll get:
Sponsored content examples that never make it into the newsletter
Early access to ideas and case studies before they're published
Deeper dives into topics I've already covered
Faster reactions to campaigns and industry news
More visual breakdowns of what works, what doesn't, and why
Different medium, same obsession.
And if you enjoy Sponcon Sports, following those channels is one of the best ways to support the work and help me keep the newsletter free.

The NBA Schedule Release Numbers Are In

Hot off the presses: a special Friday edition of Sponcon Sports.
Less than 24 hours after the 2026 NBA Schedule Release, the numbers are in.
Last year, I broke down the sponsorship trends, creative approaches, and standout executions from across the league. If you'd like to compare how things evolved year-over-year, you can revisit that edition here.
This year, we're taking things a step further.
In partnership with Gondola, we've compiled every NBA Schedule Release video and graphic in one place for easy finding (and watching!).
Now let's dive into the stats and trends that stood out.
Sponsorship Stats
93% of teams (28 of 30) produced a Schedule Release video, down from 98% (29 of 30) in 2025. The Philadelphia 76ers teamed up with @ArtButSports for a thread of art-themed matchup graphics, while the Los Angeles Lakers shared key dates on their schedule as a set of three graphics.
73% of teams (22 of 30) had a sponsor attached to their hero asset, up from 67% (20 of 30) in 2025.
7% of teams (2 of 30) sponsored graphics only—Arledge for the Oklahoma City Thunder, Ticketmaster for the Sacramento Kings.
100% of teams (22 of 22) with a sponsored hero asset included the brand’s logo, up from 95% (19 of 20) in 2025. However, only 77% (17 of 22) of those videos tagged the sponsor. Only one team, the Washington Wizards, tagged the sponsor on other platforms.
17 brands appeared across Schedule Release content, up from 14 in 2025.
Ticketmaster sponsored 41% of branded assets (9 of 22)—3x more than the next most frequent, SeatGeek (3 teams).
Beyond ticketing, only Toyota (76ers and Portland Trail Blazers) and Delta Air Lines (Lakers and Utah Jazz) showed up twice. Other categories represented were:
Medical (4): LeBonheur Children’s Hospital (Memphis Grizzlies), Advent Health (Orlando Magic), Kaiser Permanente (Golden State Warriors), Judi Health (Charlotte Hornets).
Airline (4): Delta Air Lines (Lakers and Jazz), JetBlue (Boston Celtics), United Airlines (Chicago Bulls)
Telecommunications (2): AT&T (Bulls), Motorola (Bulls)
Mortgage (1): Rocket Mortgage (Cleveland Cavaliers)
Grocery (1): H-E-B (San Antonio Spurs)
Beer (1): Michelob ULTRA (Milwaukee Bucks)
Delivery (1): DoorDash (New York Knicks)
Accounting (1): Arledge (Thunder)
Sponsorship Changes
The banking category disappeared entirely from Schedule Release sponsorships. The Wizards moved from Capital One in 2025 to Ticketmaster in 2026, while the Knicks replaced Chase with DoorDash.
The Bucks (Michelob ULTRA), Hornets (Judi Health), and Detroit Pistons (Ticketmaster) all added Schedule Release sponsors this year after having no brand presence in 2025.
The Grizzlies swapped healthcare partners. OrthoSouth sponsored Schedule Release in 2025, while Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital took over this year. The integration went deeper, too, with Le Bonheur patients helping Grizzlies players guess their opponents for the upcoming season.
Finally, Arledge replaced Pizza Hut on the Thunder’s Schedule Release graphics.
Native Integrations: Seen in 41% of Sponsored Hero Assets
41% of teams (9 of 22) integrated partners directly into their hero assets rather than relying on a simple logo overlay, up from 30% (6 of 20) in 2025:
Bulls: Three brands were integrated into Chicago’s GTA-themed video. Presenting sponsor AT&T appeared on United Center signage and storefronts as Benny the Bull made his way to the Sears Tower to meet Matas Buzelis. The United Center featured United Airlines branding, while Motorola phones appeared whenever Benny received calls along the way.
Cavaliers: Cleveland also went with a GTA theme, albeit on a smaller scale. The Rocket Mortgage logo appeared on the arena in its animated home opener video. Note: The Cavs also partnered with SeatGeek on a Schedule Release sweepstakes that asked fans to rank their top five matchups of the season, helping bolster their CRM with valuable first-party data.
Jazz: Former Jazz forward and current color analyst Thurl Bailey played a “Fandom Life Coach.” His office featured SeatGeek-branded props, including a book, phone case, and bobbleheads. A URL shown at the 1:28 mark also directed fans to a SeatGeek-branded sweepstakes. Delta Air Lines was also mentioned and shown in connection with the Delta Center.
Celtics: The JetBlue logo appeared on Jayson Tatum’s golf ball in their Masters-themed video.
76ers: The Ticketmaster logo appeared on the wall of their Sixers museum.
Hornets: The Judi Health logo was built into the chessboard for their collaboration with Chess.com. Physical chessboards were given to fans at the team’s Schedule Release party.
Dallas Mavericks: The Ticketmaster logo appeared on the chalkboard in Dallas’ take on Key & Peele’s substitute teacher sketch.
Nets: Brooklyn teamed up with NBA Research & Development (@nbaresdev) for “NBA Twitter School,” placing the Ticketmaster logo on presentation slides and the back of a laptop.
Spurs: The H-E-B logo appeared on a saddle within their “living in a country song” concept.

I also teamed up with Mondo Metrics to look beyond the creative and analyze how Schedule Release content actually performed.
Using their new MondoTrends product, they analyzed 145 posts across all 30 teams and five platforms as of 10:15 p.m. ET Thursday.
Did Sponsorship Hurt Performance?
Apparently not. According to Mondo Metrics, the 19 teams that named a sponsor in their caption generated a median 12,176 engagements, compared to 11,775 for teams without a brand mention.
That's essentially identical.
It's another data point against the idea that simply having a sponsor attached to content hurts performance. The execution still matters far more than the presence of the brand.
Casting > Production?
Mondo Metrics found that the eight teams that incorporated an outside creator, athlete, or licensed IP generated a median 21,107 engagements, compared to 7,310 for the other 22 teams, a 2.9x lift.
Those eight teams accounted for 54.8% of all Schedule Release engagement.
The productions themselves ranged significantly in scale. The common thread was giving fans a personality, creator, or familiar piece of IP to connect with.
Favorite Moments and Notable Strategies
Hawks: The Hawks make my winners list for the second straight year, this time thanks to their B-side content. And the performance backs it up: according to Mondo Metrics, Atlanta accounted for 36.1% of all Schedule Release engagement across the NBA. Their TikTok post alone generated 176,519 engagements, roughly as much as the bottom 21 teams produced across all five platforms combined. Viral bird-call imitator Samuel Henderson used different bird sounds to introduce opponents as part of “The Schedule Is (Bird) Calling.” Great example of finding the right internet personality for your brand.
Bulls: Once again, Chicago is at the top of my list. Their Grand Theft Auto-themed release was packed with NBA Easter eggs while finding natural ways to integrate three different brand partners into the experience. My favorites were the Bill Simmons references: the Body Language Doctor and, yes, his colonoscopy on the day Jaylen Brown was traded from Boston to Philadelphia.
Suns: I usually question schedule-release videos whose basic premise is, “We play everyone.” Phoenix made the simplicity work by making Dillon Brooks the entire joke: 30 seconds of him staring into the camera without blinking while the schedule scrolls beside him. Simple and completely built around his personality.
Trail Blazers: Portland leaned into the biggest positive storyline of its offseason: Damian Lillard’s return. Dame made 29 consecutive shots in one take, with each opponent and date appearing after a make. Some small missed opportunities here. They should have followed it with an alternate BTS angle and the caption: “Not AI.” And, they should have put the Toyota logo on the scoreboard in the background.
Mavericks: Dallas put its own spin on Keegan-Michael Key’s iconic substitute-teacher sketch, turning NBA team names into the joke.
Jazz: Utah's Fandom Life Coach concept was solid creatively, but I especially liked the business layer. The branding felt natural, and an Easter egg within the video drove fans to a sweepstakes, giving the Jazz a first-party data capture mechanism within the campaign.
Nets: The Nets teamed up with NBA Research & Development — a great follow if you’re not already — to put two of their young players through NBA Twitter School. Smart collaboration, very online, and a much more natural way to reveal a schedule than simply finding another theme to wrap around 82 games.
How Did the NBA Compare to the NFL?
The NFL still has a sizable Schedule Release advantage by raw views. Mondo Metrics tracked 53M NFL views during the same eight-hour window, compared to 20M for the NBA.
But there's an important caveat: 80.6% of NFL views came from X, compared to 31.4% for the NBA.
On a combined team leaderboard, Atlanta would have ranked No. 2 across both leagues, while Indiana would have ranked No. 10.
And volume wasn't the explanation. NFL teams averaged 4.97 Schedule Release posts compared to 4.83 for NBA teams.

Steal These Ideas
Paige Bueckers is using her arrival moments to spotlight her partnerships off the court. In July, the reigning Rookie of the Year wore a LEGO boutonniere (Paige Post | Team Post) to the Dallas Wings' game against the Atlanta Dream. Then, last week against the Washington Mystics, she arrived carrying her new Shirley Temple Gatorade collab on the day it launched.
The Miami Dolphins used Instagram's multiple-caption feature on this training camp carousel in partnership with SONY. This wasn't a gimmick. It served a purpose. As fans swiped through the photos, the caption identified which SONY camera was used to capture each shot.
To celebrate Kerim Alajbegović joining the club, Juventus teamed up with calligraffiti artist @kareemgraphy, who created a portrait of Alajbegović using coffee beans from Caffè Vergnano, the club's official coffee partner.
We're starting to see some of the added benefits of the Big 12 Conference's league-wide jersey patch deal with Monster Energy. Riley Herbst's car featured the Big 12–Monster Energy lockup during last week's Iowa Corn 350.
There were also a couple of clever partnership renewal announcements. The NRL's Penrith Panthers staged a "press conference" to unveil a major re-signing with buckets of talent: KFC. Meanwhile, Arsenal took a more nostalgic approach, highlighting the club's biggest achievements alongside Emirates rather than leaning into comedy. It reminded me of Liverpool's Carlsberg renewal campaign from a few years ago (scroll to Sponsored Content of the Week).
And over at Park Hall Stadium, The New Saints FC turned the pitch into a runway for a Liverpool John Lennon Airport- and easyJet-inspired player entrance, helping deliver the airport's most-viewed Reel of 2026.
